Florida Council of Catholic Women/Province of Miami at P. O. Box 1811, Labelle, FL 33975 US - FCCW PRESIDENT'S ADVENT 2008 MESSAGE

FCCW PRESIDENT'S ADVENT 2008 MESSAGE

My Sisters in Council,

Advent – a time of waiting, a time of joyful expectance and a time of preparation. Most of us understand all too well “waiting”. Waiting for the results of a medical test, waiting for the birth of a child, a grandchild, waiting for a son, daughter, grandchild to return home for Christmas break. There are many things we “wait” for – some with joyful expectancy – some with hope – some with fear – we have all experienced one or all of these moments in our lives. Advent is a time for us focus on that which allows us to experience all our “waiting” time with great hope as we know we are loved. We are loved because God gave us His only Son. What a beautiful gift.

There is much concern at this time, the results of the election, the economy, the War on Terror, and the many things that are part of our personal lives. This makes the words the angel spoke to the shepherds in the field have new meaning, “”Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11). We need not be afraid for Jesus Christ was born and He is our Savior! In his remarks to us during the Bishops Banquet at Conference, Arch Bishop Favalora reminded us that no matter what happens in this world, God is in control. We are so blessed to have our faith to sustain us through difficult times. This is one of the gifts of Council – our ability to come together as Women of Faith. It is our faith that enables us to be Joyful, Servant Leaders and to work towards building up a better parish, a better community, a better State, a better Nation and a better World.

I want to thank you for all the blessings you give to Council and to your local communities. You are all a gift to the Church and to the Council of Catholic Women. May God bless you as you continue all your good works.

Merry Christmas!

Judy Powers
